Chapter Twenty
Grayson
Fucking Noah. The minute I saw his Jeep come up the driveway, I knew the nice relaxing day I had planned for my girl was gone.
Noah and I grew up the closest out of the rest of my brothers. After Wes and Landon left for college, it was only me and Noah left, so we had no choice but to get close. And we see each other the most outside of family dinners and missions. So, I should have known he would notice that something was going on and now that heâs here, Iâm sure heâs inside texting everyone about Logan.
I donât have a problem with Logan meeting my family. They will love her and take her in as their own, especially my mom.
Noah makes friends with everyone, which makes him a kickass bar owner. He watches people interact at the bar all day and can pick up pretty quickly if they are a decent person or if he needs to keep an eye on them.
I knew the minute I saw that stupid ass smirk when he looked at Logan that I was going to be fighting my brother for Loganâs attention.
Logan is mine. She knows that and so does Noah, but that doesnât mean heâs not going to compete to be her friend and favorite Hayes brother.
Logan is sitting on my lap staring out at the forest, lost in thought. I know sheâs probably nervous, but I think it may have something to do with the fact that I just saw her back.
When she turned around and I saw the scars littered across her back, I had to do everything to stop myself from demanding she tell me who did it.
They arenât small superficial scars. Some are smaller, but some are so deep that it looks like she was stabbed. I donât want to push her but Iâm growing impatient with the secrets. Every day I see how much her past has affected her life and I wish she would let me in so I could help her move forward.
She has been alone for so long that she only knows how to rely on herself. I just need to wait a little longer and show her that Iâm not going anywhere, and that I will protect her.
I nuzzle into her neck. âSorry about Noah. But I think you two will get along. If you feel uncomfortable, we can leave, just tell me.â
Relaxing back into me, she pulls my arms tighter around her waist. âItâs okay. I wasnât prepared to meet your family, but he seems nice and funny. I wasnât expecting the blonde hair though,â she says, trying to hide her laugh.
âSome of it is natural. My grandmaâs hair was blonde.â Looking over my shoulder to make sure heâs still inside, I whisper, âHe dyes it. He went through a boy band obsession in high school and never got out of it.â
Logan canât contain her laughter anymore and it's like music to my ears. She may think she is all darkness but, in my eyes, she is a bright shining light.
